Hello all that are reading,
We posted some pictures today on the blog for some of the days, so you'll have to go back and check out Amsterdam and other days to see them. We were going to go to Freidrichshafen today but decided that we really needed to take an easy day, so we hung out in the city and drove a few places. We made breakfast, an omlette with ham, cheese, and spanish bacon with toast. Very tasty!
Our highlight of the day was mailing a package and some postcards, and having lunch at the Hofbrauhaus. First the package: Gabrielle told us where the Deutsch Post was so we found a spot to park and walked over. The "Schlange" (line or snake) was quite long so we waited and finally made it up to the window. Got the package taken care of but had to mention that the Deutsch is more than just a post office, it's also a bank and offices of DHL! A one stop place to take care of your mail, money, and if you need to ship something. No way would this go in the USA. We also saw some police park and get out of a car, they were wearing street clothes but had holsters on with a gun. They look like everyone else, you would never know until he/she flashed a badge at you.
Second: The Hofbrauhaus: Wow, it was crazy! You walk right in and just look for a seat, if you see one you ask if anyone is sitting there and if not, it's yours. We sat at a table with another German couple around our age and watched all the craziness as the soccer fans where in force. Lots of Team songs, and in between the Oom-pah band playing. Beer comes in 1/2 and 1 liter glasses here. The gentleman across from us polished off 2 liters! Mark and I had 1/2L, then split a 1 liter....very German to do so! We actually left before we finished it off as we are not quite used to drinking so much!
We got back home and spoke with Gabrielle and Joseph to find out we're leaving the day the Birthday celebration of Munchen starts taking place (850 years)! We sat around and drank some tea and had a pretzel, talked and relaxed. Started packing for tomorrow. We plan to leave for Berchtesgaden around 9am, and take the autobahn down into Austria and back into Germany. We will be out of touch for 3 or 4 days. We will post another blog when we get to Berlin, or if we find a Internet Cafe there. Take care all.

Hi,
Great pictures. They look just like postcards.
I remember the Hofbrauhaus! I went there for beers! I remember the huge mugs they serve the beer in. I meant to ask you on the last blog if you planned on going there as it is a big tourist attraction. I believe it is famous as a favorite spot of Hilter's and one he frequented when he was in Munich.
You can purchase the big beer steins with the lids that open and close in the square where the Glockenspiel is. They are associated with the Bavarian region. I got one for my brother in law one year for a Christmas gift. You should pick up a couple while you are there.
I always get hungry when I read your blogs!
I look forward to hearing about Berlin. I was there a few times. I remember the stark difference between East and West. I'm sure the East side had been developed and modernized so much since I was there. I remember lots of construction cranes dotted the sky line as the East tried to catch up with the West side.
Not much of the wall is left. What is still standing is covered with graffiti. There is a line painted in the street that traces where the wall once stood. You can still see check point Charlie. The Brandenburg gates are huge and the Reichstach still had bullet holes visable from WWII. I think the Reichstach has been refurbished since I was there.
Try to go the the Berlin Zoo and Aquarium. They are right next to one another. The Zoo is a "must see". The gardens are beautiful and they have so many animals that we don't have in the Zoo here in Atlanta like the Polar bears. You can see Knut, the world famous baby polar bear. The Zoo is huge and has many cat exhibits and Giant Pandas. (That is where I saw the male lion spray the humans who were watching him. He was in his cat house and sprayed the people through the bars by turning his backside toward them, lifting his tail and spraying!). Then he casually walked outside his cage to the outdoor part of his enclosure. The cats can go in and outdoors.
Have a safe journey to Berlin.
Keep blogging!
Love,
Gina, Kady & Belle
